System Requirements
Minimum system requirements are a 300 Mhz
Processor w/ 128mb RAM and 500MB Free Disk Space (16khz versions require 1GB
Free Disk Space). While on all systems the Natural Voices™ work great when
reading to MP3 and WAV files, on systems with less than 256MB Natural
Voices™ can have pauses when reading aloud relating to loading voices into
memory.
Recommended system requirements are a
500Mhz Processor w/ 256 mb RAM and 1GB Free Disk Space.
What are TTS Voices?
NextUp.com sells Text To Speech voices. TTS Voices are used by Text To
Speech programs, such as our TextAloud, WeatherAloud, and our other Aloud
products. They can also be used in speech products made by other
companies, as well as limited TTS capabilities built in to recent versions
of Windows (including Windows XP). Most computers and programs come
with older, mechanical sounding voices, so these premium voices sold by
NextUp.com enhance speech programs by providing better sounding voices.
One important note is that these voices alone are not programs. You
cannot simply buy a voice and use it, it must be used within a Text To
Speech program such as TextAloud or other SAPI4/SAPI5 speech applications.
What is SAPI?
SAPI is Microsoft's speech application. This is how windows and
programs get voices to talk. SAPI4 is an older version, supported by
many TTS programs older than 2 years. SAPI5 is the current version of
this interface, is supported by Windows XP's built-in speech capabilities,
as well as all newer speech programs. TextAloud and our other Aloud
products support both SAPI4 and SAPI5 voices. All voices sold by
NextUp support the newer SAPI5 interface, and AT&T Natural Voices also
support SAPI4. If you are buying a voice for someone else's product,
check to see whether it supports SAPI4 or SAPI5, or just ask us and we'll
let you know.
What do I need to make my computer talk?
1) A speech program. TextAloud is the world's most popular TTS
program. Our other products like WeatherAloud, NewsAloud, and others
listed on our site support all of these voices we sell. So unless you
already have a TTS program, you'll want to buy one of these to use your new
voice.
2) One or more of the premium voices sold by NextUp.com. Our front
page offers samples of these, or you can visit (link to more voices) for a
full listing.
